STEPHEN J. MENDOZA

Stephen J. Mendoza was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but has spent nearly his entire life in the state of Ohio. As a child, he grew up in the city of Whitehall, a suburb on the east side of Columbus. In high school he was a good student and participated in many athletic programs. He excelled in tennis and played 4 years on the varsity tennis team.

Mr. Mendoza later graduated from the Ohio State University where he studied pre-law curriculum and majored in Criminal Justice. He has also attended classes at Ohio University-Lancaster, Columbus State Community College, and the John Glenn Institute at the OSU School of Public Policy and Management. He has 17 years government work experience for the state of Ohio where he has held several distinguished positions with the Rehabilitation Services Commission, the Department of Commerce and Workers Compensation. He has served thousands of people over the years and assisted them in receiving the benefits or funds due them. He is an expert in the area of unclaimed funds claims processing rules and regulations and he is the former Administrative Officer of the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds (2000 – 2005).

Prior to working in state government, Mr. Mendoza had a very successful tenure in private industry where he worked for such companies as F & R Lazarus and the Limited.

Mr. Mendoza still lives in the central Ohio area with his family. He has been active with numerous community and charitable organizations for many years in various capacities. He has helped raise funds or donated his time as a volunteer for Mt. Carmel Hospice, the United Way, Operation Feed, Bloom Township Athletic Association, Bloom Carroll Scholastic Book Fairs, the American Red Cross, the Ohio Commission on Hispanic & Latino Affairs, and the INROADS Minority Student Intern Program.

Mr. Mendoza is a member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association, the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the Canal Winchester Area Chamber of Commerce. He still enjoys playing tennis and has won many tournaments in recent years, and is a longtime member of the United States Tennis Association as well as the Central Ohio Grand Prix Association.
